Osteoarthritis Pain

Osteoarthritis affects one in five people, and is Australia’s major cause of pain and disability. The cost to our economy is estimated at more than $23.9 billion each year in medical care and indirect costs, such as loss of earnings and lost production; not to mention the negative effects on people’s quality of life. Helping arthritis sufferers to help themselves will alleviate most of these problems.

The Catch for Arthritis Suffers

Pain tends to stop sufferers from doing the one thing they really need to do to improve their health — keep moving. Movement stimulates the production of synovial fluid, a natural lubricant, in the joints. The more a sufferer moves their body, the less pain they’re likely to experience. However, many sufferers are caught in a vicious cycle of pain and inactivity, especially if they suffer from painful feet. Sufferers then rely on medication to manage their pain, and this results in massive health costs and unfortunate side-effects that can be physically debilitating.

bob

I want to introduce you to one of our special patients named Bob. Bob was in desperate need of help. He was suffering from a significant osteoarthritic change in his big toe joint, as well as other degenerative changes around the foot. By the time Bob came to our clinic, he had been to see a number of people, without success. Bob wore orthotics¬ — in fact, he had a number of pairs — and specially made shoes. It was therefore clear that Bob had followed previous treatment recommendations.

When we met Bob, he was unable to walk for any distance without experiencing crippling pain that was significantly affecting his quality of life. Bob’s first goal was to eliminate the pain and then to start walking regularly. The advanced nature of Bob’s arthritis meant that we could barely bend his toe, which as you can imagine, was not helping his walking patterns.

Fortunately for osteoarthritis sufferers like Bob, there’s a highly effective, natural treatment option for arthritic feet and legs, which works with the body to gently reintroduce mobility to immobilised, painful joints. At Sydney Foot Solutions, we specialise in this style of mobilisation that helps to stimulate the natural lubrication of the joints.

Specific mobilisation therapy helps to:

  • gently stimulate joint oil production
  • restore mobility in the joints of the feet and legs
  • maximise the mobility of the patient
  • relieve painful arthritis symptoms

Bob enthusiastically started our treatment, and after a couple of months was walking regularly. He recently walked seven kilometres, and he now has normal movement in his toe. It was a pleasure and very rewarding to help Bob free himself from pain.
